Built in 1913, the Theatre des Champs- Élysées is both a concert hall and an opera house located on Avenue Montaigne in the 8th arrondissement, not on the Champs-Élysées, as the name suggests.

Though this Art Nouveau theatre mounts operas each year, it is the theatre’s orchestral productions with internationally renowned artists that make it a world-class venue. The Theatre des Champs- Élysées is home to the Orchestre National de France and Orchestre Lamoureux. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra also performs at the Theatre des Champs- Élysées, as does the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.

In addition to concerts, the Theatre des Champs- Élysées presents dance performances. In fact, the Ballets Russes performed its first season there. The theater is also known for having sparked a public uproar in 1913 as a result of a performance of the Rite of Spring. The Stravinsky/Nijinsky ballet proved to be a bit too scandalous for its time.

This season at the Theatre des Champs- Élysées, visitors can expect to see orchestral and dance performances that may be less controversial, but just as exciting.
