Les Misérables, became the world's longest running musical in 2006. Based on the novel by Victor Hugo and featuring the lyrics of Herbert Kretzmer and music by Claude-Michel Schoenbergn, the musical is set against the backdrop of 19th-century France and follows the life of ex-convict Jean Valjean as he cares for factory worker Fantine?s young daughter, Cosette.
