Munich: Bavarian State Opera
Bavarian State Opera (Bayerische Staatsoper) performs at various venues throughout Munich. Among them are the National Theatre at Max-Joseph-Platz, the Prinzregententheater, and Cuvilli?s Theatre. Built in the early 19th century, the National Theatre in Munich has seen a number of notable premieres, such as ?Capriccio ?by Richard Strauss, Wagner's Das Rheingold and?Die Walk?re. During World War II, the National Theatre was destroyed. Yet, it reopened in 1963 after reconstruction with a performance of?Richard Wagner's?Die Meistersinger von N?rnberg.
The Bavarian State Opera presents a full season of opera each year and hosts the Munich Opera Festival. One of the highlights of the festival is a full-length production that is transmitted live from the National Theatre to outdoor?Max-Joseph-Platz.
