The elegant Pavillon des Lys is a refreshing standout among Loire Valley hotels. The location is ideal, right near the center of the cute town of Amboise, and the electic design combines traditional French decor with chic, contemporary elements. The result is a comfortable boutique hotel that brings to mind the past without feeling at all dated.
Still, where Pavillon des Lys really shines is in its attention to detail, from the designer fixtures adorning the bathroom to the gracious staff that proactively worked to meet our needs. When we arrived, the gentleman at reception rushed outside to greet us. He grabbed our bags and led us straight upstairs to our room. No check in was required, he said, as he was already prepared for our arrival. We entered a lovely room with a faint scent of lavender.
If you go, you'll notice other little touches in this charming hotel, such as beautiful bed linens and thick plush towels. Though the standard room was somewhat small, the huge bathroom more than made up for it. The view of the castle was icing on the cake.
The hotel also features a refined dining room. In fact, its restaurant, respected and renowned in the region, requires reservations well in advance, even for hotel guests. For dinner, multiple courses are served with the utmost professionalism and care in choreographic precision.
The hotel is just a short walk from the Amboise Castle, as well as shops, and bakeries. Free parking is available.
