Elisabeth Platel, Beloved Dancer of the Paris Opera Ballet

February 9, 2012

Grandeur and elegance seems to permeate everything at the Palais Garnier, the opera house in Paris, from the decor to the architecture, as well as the artists themselves. Elisabeth Platel, former princial of the Paris Opera Ballet, is one such artist.

She is a beloved dancer of the Paris Opera Ballet for her exquisite technique. And though her prescence on stage could best be described as regal, she was also a charming dancer. One of her more popular roles is Raymonda, staged by Nureyev.

Elisabeth Platel joined the Paris Opera Ballet in 1976 and was promoted to principal dancer in 1981. She was a favored dancer of Nureyev. She is currently the director of the Paris Opera Ballet School.
