National Ballet of Cuba performs in Paris dance festival', 'National Ballet of Cuba to Perform in Paris', '
The National Ballet of Cuba, under the direction of Alicia Alonso, will perform in Paris for the Les Etés de la Danse de Paris (Paris Summer Dance Festival), in July and August, at the Grand Palais. The Grand Palais, a massive, glass exhibition hall, was built for the 1900 World Expo and was recently renovated. The ballet program includes Giselle and Don Quixote. Tickets prices are $100.
Considered by many as one of the most prestigious dance companies in the world, the National Ballet of Cuba made a name for itself by being both the expression of the Hispano-American culture and protector of the purest and the most demanding choreographic tradition of ballet. These two influences show through a repertoire, which includes many great ballets (Coppelia, Swan Lake, Beast and the Beauty and, above all, Alicia Alonso''s unequalled choreography: Giselle), and works by Diaghilev, Balanchine, as well as Cuban choreographers.
