Things to Do in Paris to Celebrate the Holidays
October 30, 2009
For those lucky enough to travel to Paris this winter, you're in for a real treat. With lights, decorations, and special concerts, Paris shimmers during the holidays. Experience the holiday spirit of Paris with these things to do.
Go Holiday Shopping
You can shop or just stand in awe of the decorations at Galeries Lafayette, a premier department store in Paris, located on the famous Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th arrondissement. The elaborate window displays are among the draws to Au Bon March?, also a department store. Or, spend time in the Christmas markets located throughout Paris for hand-crafted toys, ornaments and souvenirs.

Indulge in Sweet Treats
Warm up in a caf? or p?tisserie with a hot cup of coffee and a beautifully designed pastry, macaron or, of course, chocolate. Specialty pastry and chocolate tours with tastings are offered in Paris with an expert food connoisseur. Or, explore the many shops sprinkled throughout the city on your own.
The Paris Opera Ballet, one of the world's most renowned dance companies, performs the holiday favorite The Nutcracker (Casse Noissette in French) at its contemporary venue, Opera Bastille.

Hit the Ice
For a few euro, you can rent skates and spend the afternoon gliding on the ice to Christmas music. The free outdoor ice skating rink opens every winter at the Hôtel de Ville.
