Of the ballet and dance companies in Italy, the Corpo di Ballo, the ballet company of Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, is one of the finest.

The ballet school, founded in 1928, is known for training dancers who go on to command leading positions in Italian theaters and worldwide.

The ballet company in Rome has been led by distinguished directors including Aurel Milloss, who directed in the 30s, Erik Bruhn, Andr? Prokovski, Pierre Lacotte, Maya Plissetskaya, and Vladimir Vassiliev. The ballet is also recognized for its current director, Carla Fracci. Carla Fracci has been director of the corps de ballet since 2000 and is considered to be one of the greatest dancers of Romantic ballets, such as La Sylphide and Giselle.

The Rome ballet company's repertoire includes traditional ballets and works of contemporary choreographers, including Petipa, Fokine, Balanchine, Ashton, Nureyev, Cranko, Petit, Lim?n, Massine, Bournonville, Manzotti, and Nijinskij.
